Welcome to the Band Department at Granger Middle School! We are looking forward to the 2020-2021 school year with much excitement! The purpose of this handbook is to provide you with an awareness and understanding of the policies, organizational structure, and general functioning of the Granger Band Program. Please read the handbook in its entirety, discuss it with your family, and keep the link for future reference.
Band at Granger Middle School is offered as a curricular activity for those who wish to pursue the study of a band instrument. Although participation in band requires extra time and effort, it greatly enhances many areas of a student’s personal growth and adds another dimension to his or her general education. The band program at Granger Middle School is designed to help meet the emotional, social, and cultural needs of every band student.

Band Class
Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade band students participate in band as one of their chosen elective classes. All curricular bands rehearse every day. The band experience helps to build self-esteem, stresses the concept of teamwork, builds respect for others, and enhances the total person within each child. The development of group (ensemble) performance skills such as balance, blend, intonation and precision are pursued during the daily band rehearsals. Music history, music theory, sight reading and compositional devices are also explored during the full group experience. |
Concerts
All band students perform multiple times each year. Every band member must attend each performance. Failure to attend a performance without a valid excuse will result in the lowering of the band grade. Excuse letters must be turned in 2 weeks prior to the concert. Please, mark your calendars now and notify Mr. Dyhouse or Mr. Pakkebier of any conflicts immediately. Contact either of us in the event of emergency or illness the evening of a performance. (Due to COVID concerts may be canceled or moved, communication about concerts will take place in the future, we've given you the concerts dates that have been saved as of now) Visit the band website for the band calendar www.grangerbands.weebly.com |
